The devolvement of roads, gas lines, bridges, dams, houses and city buildings all affect the environment. The advancement of a society can often cause great harm in the process. As a result of improving the community, forests are sometimes lost and the waters are often polluted.

Deforestation
In the Amazon rain forest, the growth of the population in Latin America has led to intense deforestation. This deforestation has caused a clash of cultures, particularly in Brazil, where the habitats of indigenous cultures are coming into conflict with the modern world.

Terraces
On the Andes mountains, terraces were carved into the land in order to facilitate farming of maize, potatoes, and other crops in the steep mountains. The locals used to grow corn at Moray, but this practice was forbidden in order not to damage the archaeological site. The different levels of the terrace function at different temperature allowing plants that need lower temperature to grow a chance to flourish.

Biodiversity
The loss of habitat is causing the biodiversity of the region to shrink. Also, during the Colombian Exchange, different species of animals and plants were introduced to the region. The introduction of cattle and horses had a major impact on the culture of Latin American countries such as Mexico and Argentina.
